Mercedes Benz CLK GTR, The Most Expensive Car Ever Built

Under the hood of the Mercedes Benz CLK GTR you will find the powerful 6.0 L V12 Mercedes-Benz LS600 engine with a sequential 6-speed manual transmission. This supercar have a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 3.8 seconds, and the top speed is 214 mph. It is used combination of carbon fiber and aluminium for the chassis, and a Double Wishbone suspension system for the front and the rear suspension.

This sports car built by Mercedes was primarily designed for racing in the 1997 FIA GT Championship. After the succesful competition in 1997 winning 6 races out of 11, it was upgraded for the 24 Hours of Le Mans championship in 1998.

Although this car have a total balance of 17 wins out of 22 races, the results of Le Mans 1998 were not so briliant, Mercedes Team racing in the GT1 category ended the race ranked at 43th position with 31 completed laps, and at the 46th with 19 completed laps. Just for a comparison, the winning team of Porsche ended the race with 351 completed laps winning the 1st place, and 350 completed laps winning the 2nd place.

Only 25 road cars of this model were ever produced, 24 of them were built as a left hand drive, and only one as a right hand drive built especially for Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei. At the time the Mercedes Benz CLK GTR was the most expensive car ever built, recorded as such in the Guinness Book of World Records with a price of $1,547,620.
