Ferrari F40, The Timeless Supercar That Never Goes Out of Style

The Ferrari F40 is a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive supercar powered by a 2.9 L twin-turbocharged V8 Tipo F120A engine, delivering 471 hp and 424 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm, tied to a 5-speed manual transmission. The acceleration time from 0-60 mph is 4.2 seconds, from 0-100 mph it is 8.3 seconds and the top speed of this masterpiece is 199 mph. The low weight and the excellent aerodynamics of this two-door coupé has a huge contribution to its speed. The materials used for the body panels include carbon fiber, kevlar and aluminum, providing strength and a low weight.

Interesting thing about the interior of this car is that you won’t find a door handles and there are no door panels, glove box, leather trim or carpets. Without all those things a sound system will be considered as a luxury, so there is no sound system either, but there is an air conditioning system. You will also find a plastic windshield and windows, used to reduce the total weight of the car even more.

The Ferrari F40 was the last car personally approved by Enzo Ferrari, designed to celebrate the 40th year anniversary. It was built from 1987 to 1992 and it was Ferrari’s most powerful, fastest, and most expensive car at the time. In 1988, on a high speed test at Nardò Ring, two cars Ferrari F40 reached a identical top speed of 199 mph, but it was not enough to beat the Porsche 959 (211 mph) and the Ruf CTR (213 mph). However, the F40 was faster than the Mercedes AMG (179 mph). A total of 1,311 cars of this model were ever produced.
